Instead of laughing in their conniving faces, we go out and spend $50, or sometimes much more, and buy it! Let's not forget those "scientific studies" posted by an "independent" board of certified chemists. Needless to say, it was another creative way to help me waste more money! Other such "scientifically compiled information" in advertisements today mirror my Dibencozide example, so don't fall for it! In fact, believe it or not, my local news (remember, everybody trusts them) once cited a study claiming that HMB was a proven muscle builder, yet look at how popular HMB is today? It's safe to say that HMB is not quite the "hot" bodybuilding supplement that the advertising suggested a few years back, or for that matter, the NEWS claimed after quoting this obviously bogus "scientific" research! Don't fall for it! I can imagine hundreds of bodybuilders running out to their local "health" store and picking up 5 bottles of a bodybuilding supplement that the news claims to be effective for muscle gain. Simply put, if you have enough money and power, a "scientific study" will say anything you wish, and such "research" is commissioned by bodybuilding supplement companies as a form of advertising, since the results are "predetermined" (like a good pro wrestling match). The studies are merely unethically tainted advertising tools!

I don't know if you've ever read articles in bodybuilding magazines hyping a yet-to-be-released bodybuilding supplement as being the greatest legal muscle building agent to ever hit the shelves, but if you have, please remember that if I advertise in magazine X, and I tell magazine X that I want them to promote bodybuilding supplement Z before its release, magazine X will write articles hyping bodybuilding supplement Z before it ever reaches the stores, thus, people are greatly anticipating this supposed bodybuilding supplement phenomena (guaranteeing record sales when the substance is finally available). We trust the magazine, because the "bodybuilding supplement report" is presented as an impartial review from one of the "expert fitness writers", yet, it's just product hype under the "unbiased truth" umbrella, and both the magazine and the bodybuilding supplement company make money on us suckers. In addition, most muscle building magazines are simply multi-page advertisements for bodybuilding supplements that the magazine company itself sells! They will have their writers speak highly of a particular fat loss or muscle building supplement, acting as an "unbiased observer," when in fact these writers are working for the company that produces the very bodybuilding supplement they speak highly of! Trust me, this is what's happening, and because muscle building supplement sales are such a lucrative business model, it's not going to change!
Remember this important lesson -- if a "clinical study" used in an advertisement says "our bodybuilding supplement added 30 pounds of new muscle mass," or "our fat loss supplement shed 20 pounds of body fat," but you find that the same bodybuilding supplement has no impact whatsoever on your body, who is correct, your real world lack of results, or the "clinical study" that is used as part of a bodybuilding supplement advertisement? The answer is obvious!

And could the current rise in all forms of cancer be related to use of artificial products (including bodybuilding and fat loss supplements) in our diet? How do we know? We DON'T, which means if any bodybuilding supplement really does provide steroid equivalent muscle growth or fat loss, then the risks associated with the pill, powder, or liquid would also mirror that of steroids, which once again brings about questions of longevity (not knowing whether you'll enjoy your next birthday outside of a hospital).

We purchase these popular bodybuilding publications believing that we've invested in over 300 pages of current, cutting edge bodybuilding information, yet most of the magazine is devoted to pushing worthless powders and pills. With these bodybuilding magazines charging thousands of dollars per page for a black and white add, big time bodybuilding publications are making hundreds of thousands in profit per issue on bodybuilding supplements alone. Can you now understand why these magazines refuse to print the truth about bodybuilding supplements? They're making millions per year off of bodybuilding supplement companies who purchase advertising in their muscle magazine, and they will never "bite the hand that feeds them" (especially considering that bodybuilding supplement companies spend most of their advertising dollars targeting those who are confused and searching for answers, many of whom read such magazines). Just as special interest groups influence and greatly corrupt political decisions, bodybuilding supplement companies slant the opinions of big time magazine authors, since they are receiving profit for doing so. This is not to mention the magazines that promote their own bodybuilding supplements within the "unbiased" articles, which is downright scary.

Muscular, Flat Mid-Section?
Now that I've explained how bodybuilding supplements are not what they claim to be, what about all of those abdominal machines claiming to "shape, firm, and tone that sagging middle," and the "inexpensive home gyms" that have some beefed up personal trainer saying how he gained 30 pounds of muscle in 10 days using the simple, no fuss "bodypumper?" These abdominal machines, which are nothing but overpriced plastic salad bowls, are portrayed as having built some of the greatest bodies on earth, when in fact they've done nothing but produce significant revenue for the company that promotes such gibberish. The fact is, no machine on the market today is effective in building a firm, athletic mid-section, as the simple road to improving abdominal definition is body fat reduction via proper diet techniques, period! Oh, this is too easy, you say? When I had a 43 inch waist, no abs were visible, and at 33 inches, my abs were extremely defined, yet I rarely performed direct abdominal training, and did not achieve definition in my stomach until I lost excess fat through a new dietary approach. Nevertheless, these exercise equipment companies will have you believe otherwise, following in the bodybuilding supplement industry's footsteps by claiming that their products will build an impressive body with little to no effort. This is yet another in the physical fitness industry's string of lies that have left so many confused and aimless as they strive to achieve an impressive physique.

Unfortunately, chapter one of any course written by a pro bodybuilder would need to read "Steroids and Other Delicious Anabolic Snacks," because this is the basis behind their unnatural level of muscle gain and fat reduction. Quite simply, they use drugs, and therefore, do not train or eat like those who don't. Period!

Bodybuilding Programs
The biggest issue (which is rapidly expanding due to inexpensive Internet advertising) is that the sole intention of certain bodybuilding programs is to obtain your contact information so they can later forward you bodybuilding supplement advertisements! Just try to purchase various Internet based bodybuilding programs, and in addition to disappointing muscle growth or fat loss, you may find yourself plagued with continuous bodybuilding supplement advertising from the very company that sold you the muscle building or fat loss program! In fact, the company's course is not designed to help you build muscle mass or lose fat, as the motivation for bodybuilding supplements would then disappear. Rather, their bodybuilding program is simply a prelude to the true intention, which is to capitalize on your continued frustration by claiming that a certain bodybuilding supplement can help "hardgainers" to enhance testosterone and/or growth hormone, promising additional muscle building or fat loss. Fortunately, the reason for lackluster progress has absolutely no connection with bodybuilding supplements, but rather stems directly from the ineffective routine they sold you! These individuals are simply starting their own bodybuilding magazine under the guise of a muscle building or fat loss program, so please be careful when scanning Internet ads! These bodybuilding and fat loss routines have the exact same flaws as bodybuilding magazines I described earlier, as they wish to capitalize on your continued confusion with their soon to arrive bodybuilding supplement advertisement. It is absolutely imperative that you understand the unscrupulous methods that today's bodybuilding and fat loss related web sites are using to eventually sell you a new "testosterone boosting" or "growth hormone inducing" product, while establishing this "need" by creating a flawed, improperly designed muscle gain or fat loss program that leads to your frustration. This unscrupulous strategy may be employed far more often than anyone is truly aware of, so be warned.

Another huge problem with popular (and not so popular) bodybuilding programs is the lack of author support. Who do you ask? No matter how well written or complete a bodybuilding program may be (and believe me, many are not), almost everybody will inevitably experience a dilemma which needs to be specifically addressed by the bodybuilding program author. As you'll find, the lack of direct, unlimited personal support may encourage you to completely abandon the bodybuilding program, as you'll have no way of finding the answers to some very critical concerns. We all have different goals, limitations, schedules, food preferences, etc, and what may be a question or problem for one may not cross another's mind, which is the very reason why there is NO "perfect" bodybuilding plan, and the ability to elicit personal support from the bodybuilding program's author is vital to the success of any weight training & diet system.

In addition, throughout my years of digesting bodybuilding material, none have provided me with a step-by-step, complete weight training and diet routine! All have discussed vague concepts and suggested various techniques, but no bodybuilding program I found has covered every effective diet and weight training method in specific, easy to follow format, eliminating guesswork. Without such an outline, confusion once again becomes an overwhelming reality, and as we all know, guessing will certainly lead to failure.
Don't misunderstand, I have no problem with companies or individuals charging for items that benefit the bodybuilder, but the large majority of muscle building or fat loss materials are either driven by bodybuilding supplement giants who wish to generate millions off of products that don't provide even a margin of what they promise, or steroid induced pro bodybuilders who, because of chemical assistance, don't weight train or diet like we do, and thus can't provide the proper workout and diet plan to benefit the drug-free lifter (plus don't offer personal support for the bodybuilding system they endorse). This is not to mention the vast number of programs you see which claim to be written by a certain bodybuilder or "fitness expert," yet are actually produced by a marketing firm, and have no connection with the supposed author (other than seeing his or her picture on the cover!). The truth is, if any of these products lived up to half of what they claim, I'd gladly have paid twice the retail price to finally achieve fantastic results.
My Muscle Building
Frustration!
So what did I do? After a bunch of useless bodybuilding supplements, I had yet to achieve my goal, which was to have a large level of muscle mass with low body fat, and I did not want to look like Phil the Elephant during winter months and have to lose massive amounts of fat for the summer. It's undesirable, redundant, and unnecessary!
23 years ago, I set out to find a method of building large amounts of muscle mass, without becoming excessively fat in the process, and during this period implemented many strategies, along with bodybuilding supplements and goofy machinery which offered, unfortunately, unacceptable results. Most people who pursue physical fitness have an ultimate goal of locating a detailed program that teaches exactly what and when to eat, how to weight train, when to exercise, etc., written by a natural bodybuilder! Yet, to my dismay, all materials I purchased were either incomplete, did not offer support, were written by a steroid user, or had one prime intention, which was to sell me bodybuilding supplements. You will find that some courses try to pawn bodybuilding supplements within the program itself (which you obviously won't learn until after you buy), or imply that bodybuilding supplements are a "helpful aid" to muscle gain or fat loss and, in the upcoming months, will send you advertisements on how hundreds of dollars worth of their bodybuilding supplements will magnify results.
Be very careful of these individuals or companies, as they are "bating" you with their weight training workout and diet plan, while secretly devising a "back end" scheme to generate a lifetime bodybuilding supplement bill. Nevertheless, some of the bodybuilding information I learned from my exploration was useful, so I continued researching with an attempt at finding a viable solution. I learned that many bodybuilding philosophies and strategies are useless, and some even dangerous, with one harmful technique resulting in a severe triceps injury which forced an eight month layoff. Nevertheless, my bodybuilding discovery is worth the dozens of back, triceps, and tendinitis problems I've suffered over my years of weight training since, quite simply, it led me to success.
How Can I Achieve My Muscle Building Goals WITHOUT Using Bodybuilding Supplements or Becoming FAT?
I always thought there was a solid answer, but everywhere I read, people insisted that bulking up (otherwise known as gaining huge amounts of fat) is the only way to produce new muscle weight. Yet, this doesn't make any sense. Sure, anyone can gain equal amounts of fat and muscle, but who wants to? I can guarantee that you would rather maintain a reasonable level of definition throughout the whole year than be forced to wear a shirt at the beach because of a fat, protruding stomach! Most will gain some body fat as they build muscle mass (although some will not, as I have received testimonials from those following my program who indicate pure muscle gains, some while losing fat), yet the large majority add far more body fat than is necessary since they do not know the correct way to manipulate diet variables to control body fat during the muscle building process. Sure, you can hide a fat middle, but you can't shelter the fat face, neck, fingers, etc. Since your goal is to build an impressive looking physique, gaining large amounts of body fat defeats the purpose of bodybuilding altogether.
Because of poor [yet commonly followed] weight gain diet strategies, I added 120 pounds, a large portion of which was FAT (I had a 43 inch waist, which is considered grossly obese for my small bone structure), and I was unfortunately misled into believing that I must weigh 250 pounds with a gut hanging over my pants and no definition in the muscle groups I trained in order to be considered "big," at least by the drug saturated bodybuilding environment that I was influenced by. This is another in the endless examples of muscle building misconceptions, as you follow the same muscle building routine whether wishing to gain 1, 10, 30, or 80 pounds of new muscle mass. The only difference is that those with a minor muscle building goal will switch to a "maintenance" phase sooner than those who seek more substantial muscle gain, but both follow the same weight training workout and bodybuilding diet methods. Thus, you decide how much muscle mass is built by switching to maintenance the moment you are satisfied with muscle gain and body fat levels. This applies to males and females, as both genders control the level of muscle mass gained and fat lost, thus achieving what they consider to be "ideal" given their objectives. But if you are worried about having to follow crazy muscle building routines listed on Internet sites or promoted in steroid and bodybuilding supplement pushing magazines, then there is no cause for concern, as my goal is to offer a realistic solution to muscle building and fat loss that does not require you to devote every moment of the day to lifting weights and eating food. I'm a Hardgainer!
Those who consider themselves "hardgainers" are actually following an ineffective diet and weight training workout plan, yet will gain quickly when using the proper bodybuilding principles. I could have permanently labeled myself a "hardgainer" at various times throughout my muscle building pursuit (namely, at my 130 pound, 6'2" stage), but have found that those citing the "hardgainer" mentality are actually following an ineffective bodybuilding diet and weight training workout plan, and isn't it logical that one cannot begin to make progress with a flawed routine? Yet, so many label themselves "genetically cursed" while having never implemented a potent diet and weight training combination! You are not predisposed to small muscles, but rather create an adverse muscle building environment through ineffective bodybuilding diet and weight training principles (thus, you become a "hardgainer" by virtue of your weight lifting workout and diet mistakes). Never forget this! Nobody is doomed to failure when following a properly designed bodybuilding diet and workout plan, as we all have the capability of bringing about tremendous muscle building and fat loss results. This is a fact! Instead of assuming that your genetics are somehow flawed, begin to realize that the diet and workout routine needs a dramatic and immediate alteration!

I can't stress enough the importance of a correctly designed bodybuilding diet plan in achieving muscle building results, especially for the natural aspirant. In fact, I like to think of food as the "natural bodybuilder's steroid", because diet will honestly spell the difference between success and failure for the drug-free lifter. Even with the perfect weight training workout program, a faulty diet will prevent even an ounce of muscle mass from being gained, and for overweight lifters, will stifle fat loss, which is a fact that far too few realize (and a tidbit you should never forget).
What About Age?
It doesn't matter! We all gain quicker in our teens and 20s due to higher natural hormone levels, but I have helped individuals who are young and old alike to achieve results (from mid-teens to 60s!), as you will see in my muscle building and fat loss testimonial section. If an 18 year old takes 3 months to achieve x progress, a 50 year old will require a longer period, and he or she may not achieve the same level of muscle mass due to age (since hormone levels decline), but the plan remains identical, and results are consistent. Of course, those in their 30s-40s need not worry, as they can still gain muscle mass at speeds close to their younger counterparts, and those 50+ will still produce consistent, dramatic progress. Significant muscle gain and fat loss are both possible at any age, so assuming health can support regular exercise, age is not a factor that should interfere with achieving results. How Do I Gain Strength?
Oh, and another unfortunate misconception involves strength, as some believe that building an aesthetically pleasing physique is not linked with strength and power, but I suggest that you think again! I've personally proven that both strength and physical appearance can undertake a simultaneous improvement, as through the use of proper, effective bodybuilding diet and weight training principles, not only have I produced over 60 pounds of new muscle mass, but have also dramatically increased strength, and achieved a very low body fat percentage (defined abs), all without bodybuilding supplements or steroids. You need not sacrifice appearance for the sake of extreme strength increases (or vice versa), as when following a properly designed weight training workout and bodybuilding diet plan, both strength and muscle size rise significantly. Do NOT Confuse
Muscle Strength With Muscle Mass!
People have told me that they gain strength using certain techniques (such as HIT, also known as "High Intensity Training"), but do not improve in muscle mass, and this seeming contradiction must confuse many who aim to enhance physical appearance. It is very important that you do not mistake strength gains with muscle building, as you may find yourself using a significantly higher weight in all exercises six weeks after starting a new weight training workout plan, while having yet to gain any measurable muscle mass, and this will cause you to believe that waiting a few weeks longer will allow muscle size to "catch up" with strength improvements. However, it will prove to be a very long, disappointing few weeks if you take this approach, because your muscle mass will not change! Do not mistakenly believe that a bodybuilding program is "working" just because you are now bench pressing more than you were a few weeks ago, because the only way to determine if your bodybuilding routine is providing legitimate progress is to measure muscle growth (I will teach you exactly how this is done). You can gain strength and muscle size simultaneously if you eat and train correctly, but there are routines that will actually cause your strength to increase with little associated muscle size improvements (e.g., H.I.T., as well as others), and this is a very important distinction that few unfortunately realize.
